ENVIRONMENT (Why the Frog)

People frequently ask us why we use the frog as our mascot. Simply, because the first indications of pollution shows up in frogs as deformities. Since one of our guiding principles here at Flat Attack is to protect the environment, every effort is made to chose ingredients that are benign or we go to the expense of getting food-grade materials. After using these safe components to make our sealant, we thoroughly wash our equipment and in the process, we catch all of the wash water. All of this wash water–except a small amount–is saved and used in the next batch. The small amount of wash water we do not reuse (because we are unsure of the amounts of various chemicals and we do not want to upset the integrity of the new batch) is then set out to dry. This dry ‘clump’, which is totally safe, is then properly disposed of in the landfill. While the ingredients we use in Flat Attack are safe, every care is taken to protect the water system and, yes, the frogs, down stream from us.

Use in Tubes:

One overlooked facet of being environmentally studious is in not putting a short-lived sealant into a tube.  Other sealants, which have a life span of a couple of months too perhaps a year or so, are fine when just used in tubeless applications, but they should never be installed into a tube! The logic is simple: when these short-lived sealants fail, as they do, the tube then becomes useless and must be discarded. Just because these other sealants are inside a tube will not increase the life span of the sealant, it will still cure in a couple of months. If your solution is to add more sealant, the tube just fills up with useless byproducts and after less than a year, the tube is sent to a premature death in the landfill. Dispatching thousands of tubes to this early grave is not a wise, environmentally conscious practice. Only install Flat Attack Sealant in tubes as it is the only sealant that works for years, not months.

A word of caution:

“Environmentally safe” can be a tricky phrase. Some sealants use various chemicals such as ethylene glycol (antifreeze) or other dangerous chemicals. Though some of these chemicals may degrade quickly when released into the environment and are considered GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) by the FDA, they are still very poisonous and are dangerous to people and pets and their use in sealants is not wise. Just know this: “Environmentally Safe” does not always mean the sealant is safe to humans, animals, or the earth!
